A historical and folkloric event, this crossbowman competition is held in Assisi on the last weekend of August.
The Palio di San Rufino is a historical and folkloric event held in Assisi on the last weekend of August. It is a competition of crossbowmen coming from the different districts of the city (Dive Mariae, San Rufino and San Francesco). This crossbow competition, accompanied by costumed parades, is held in memory of the agreements of 1542 that put an end to the infighting between the various factions of the city. The winner receives the Palio, a drapery painted by an artist of national fame. An unforgettable moment of celebration to experience if you stay in Assisi.
