This medieval square forms the historical centre and the hub of Assisi's social life. At the heart of the piazza del Comune stands an imposing ornamental fountain, adorned with three lions. Also located in this square are the tourist office and the Palazzo dei Priori from 1337 (now the town hall), which houses the Pinacoteca Comunale on thefirst floor. Visit the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo with its crenellated tower and the Roman temple of Minerva, which was converted into a church in the Middle Ages. To the north, go straight to the Basilica of San Francesco.
