CATTEDRAL
Cathedral with Moorish arches and decoration of Arab-Norman inspiration in Gaeta.
The cathedral's foundations date back to the 11th century, with the reuse of older tombs. The Moorish arches and the original decoration are of Arab-Norman inspiration, from the kingdom of Sicily where the Arab dynasty of the Aghlabids (from Tunisia) gave an architectural style that will be exported to Gaeta. Gaeta was known as the city of a hundred churches during the Middle Ages. At most, she had 56, which was very important. Popes loved this city and often stayed there. The cathedral was redesigned in the 18th century.
