VILLA DI TIBERIO
Ruins of an imperial villa overlooking the sea in Sperlonga.
The ruins of this magnificent residence dominate the sea. Emperor Tiberius received his guests here in a scenographic setting: the sea entered the cavities, forming basins and decorated pools dedicated to fish farming. Huge Hellenistic statues decorated the vast cave. Fragments of these have been discovered and displayed in the small archaeological museum. For years, this museum has worked to reconstruct these sculptural ensembles: today we can see the reconstituted Scylla ensemble, impressive in its majesty.
