Church where the walls are decorated with frescoes of the 12th and 14th centuries
A jewel of medieval art in Abruzzo, the church of Santa Maria ad Cryptas is worth a visit. Don't be fooled by its rather simple exterior: its interior is impressive. When you enter this small church, you feel like you are in the middle of a comic book. The walls are covered with frescoes dating, on one side from the XIIth century, on the other from the XIVth. Some of these frescoes would have served as sources of inspiration to Dante for his Divine Comedy.
