PARCO NAZIONALE D'ABRUZZO, LAZIO E MOLISE
National park with one of the richest forests and fauna in Europe
The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise, created in 1922, covers most of its 44,000 hectares in the Abruzzo region and includes 12 municipalities of the region (Alfedena, Barrea, Bisegna, Civitella Alfedena, Gioia dei Marsi, Lecce nei Marsi, Opi, Ortona dei Marsi, Pescasseroli, Scanno, Villavallelonga and Villetta Barrea), out of 24 in total. Pescasseroli is in the heart of the park and is often considered the capital of the park. However, in all these villages you will find an interesting offer of accommodation and restaurants, as this territory has a certain tourist attraction.
The landscapes of the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise have a wild aspect and evoke the force of nature, thanks to their forests of deciduous oaks and firs, at low altitudes, and beech trees, above 1,000 meters. The flora is very rich and includes rare endemic species such as theiris marsica or the black pine of Villetta Barrea. An exemplary refuge, the National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise is home to one of the richest fauna in Europe. The Apennine wolf, the Abruzzo bear, the chamois, the lynx, the deer and the eagle are its most prestigious species.
With over a million visitors a year, it is the most visited park in the region. Hikers (160 hiking trails), naturalists or simply curious will be amazed by this masterpiece of nature.
