BASILICA DI SANTA MARIA DEL COLLE
Basilica in the city center with Abruzzo architecture and a painting by Tanzio de Varallo
In the heart of the city, this basilica, built in the 11th century, was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1456. Rebuilt ten years later, it has kept a rather simple appearance from the outside. Inside, however, you should not miss the painting in chiaroscuro by one of Caravaggio's most famous pupils, Tanzio De Varallo. On the ceiling, the frescoes by the Neapolitan, Giambattista Gamba, are also worth a look.
