GROTTA DI BEATRICE CENCI
Cave formed by the river Imele with the name of a young woman with a legendary history
The guided tour of this cave, formed by the river Imele, in the heart of the Apennines, is done with the help of a frontal light, as there is no illumination inside. Torrents, stalactites and stalagmites form a real natural underground spectacle. The cave is named after Beatrice Cenci, whose story is a national legend. The young woman, a member of the nobility of the 16th century, was abused several times by her father and murdered him with the help of her brothers. When the body was discovered, they were all charged and sentenced to death.
