CATTEDRALE SAN GIUSTINO
Cathedral built on the ruins of a pagan temple, the most important religious monument of Chieti.
Consecrated in 1609, the Cathedral of Chieti was built between the 11th and 16th centuries on the ruins of a pagan temple. The current facade is the work of the architect Guido Cirilli, who was inspired by many medieval monuments. The imposing interior, in the late Baroque style, follows a basilica plan in the shape of a cross. With its three naves, transept, crypt and numerous chapels, this cathedral is the most important religious monument in the province of Chieti. It is dedicated to San Giustino, patron saint of the city.
