ROMAN REMAINS
Roman remains in Chieti including temples, theater and baths
Temples, Piazza dei Templi Romani. In the heart of Civitella, they date back to the first century AD. During the Middle Ages, two of the three small temples were transformed into Christian churches. In 1935 the churches were abolished and an attempt was made to restore the original temples.
Theater, Via di Porta Napoli. It could accommodate up to 5,000 spectators. The remains date back to the 2nd century AD.
Thermal baths, Via delle Terme Romane. These baths were built during the first and second centuries AD; beautiful mosaics can be seen on the floor.
