CASTELLO MONFORTE
Castle with a weather station of historical and architectural interest.
Built on the ruins of a Samnite fortress, the castle was fortified in 1459 on the initiative of Count Cola. At that time, the main entrance was on the south side: a drawbridge controlled the access. One can still see the two vertical slits through which the chains that allowed the ascent or descent of the bridge passed. Two cylindrical towers, whose bases are still visible, completed the defense. Beyond its historical and architectural interest, the castle offers a beautiful view of Campobasso and its surroundings.
