CASTELLO SVEVO
Castle with an observation point and a control base to monitor the surrounding roads.
The castle is the symbol of the city and was built in the time of Frederick II of Swabia on an old Norman tower. The castle was built on a former Norman tower, with four turrets and a rectangular tower on top, to serve as an observation point and control base. Through the reinforced gateway, the entry of people and goods into the enclosure was controlled, and in the base, weapons were kept for defense. During the Spanish domination, the loopholes were enlarged and the castle lost its defensive function. Today it offers a unique view of the city.
