Extensive walls completely isolating the city and the castle during the Swabian period.
During the Swabian period, the city walls and the castle were rebuilt and extended. The initiator of these initiatives was Frederick II. Later, Termoli lost its importance. Until 1847, it remained the same. Then the Bourbon king Ferdinand gave permission to build outside the walls. He ordered two orthogonal axes, the Corso Nazionale that runs from north to south and the Corso Umberto, thus launching the modern history of Termoli. Totally isolating the historic core from the rest of the city, the wall is topped by a parapet walk.
