Gatwick is a smaller and more distant airport than Heathrow (45 km from central London), but it still serves nearly 200 destinations around the world, you will find discount tickets on the website. It hosts most low-cost airlines. To get to central London there are several options: the Gatwick Express (the fastest), Southern trains to Victoria, or National Express buses.

very lively and crowded airport that is more popular with low cost airlines. It is more popular with people who wants to travel cheaply even if you have also big airlines like british airways flying from/to there. The restaurants are normal standards for an english airport (so a bit low) and lounges are rare. However the conenction si good. You can choose between train (gatwick express that is more expensive but direct and southern that is with intermediate stops but cheaper), bus (but I would not recommend it because train is much faster) and taxi (but then I would recommend to contact one of the many taxi companies in advance. The balck cab to London will be very expensive (I never did it)
To Gatwik from London, take train SOUTHERN ..... much cheaper than express Gatvick...from Victoria Station... and barely longer: 37 minutes
Airport whose signposting is very good. Far but very well served for London: train ticket ticket transfer to the counter or machine.
