This racecourse, which dates back to the 17th century, is world-famous for its Derby Stakes or Derby d'Epsom, a group 1 flat horse race, one of the most prestigious in the world, reserved for three-year-old foals and run over 2,423 metres. The first edition of this race took place in 1780 and is held every year in June at Epsom Downs. Let us add for the amateurs that this race is the second stage of the English Triple Crown of thoroughbred races.

lorsqu'on approche de cet hippodrome en dehors de la saison des courses, on a plutôt l'impression qu'on va y découvrir une grande prairie avec des bâtiments désaffectés. en fait il n'en est rien, tout est ouvert et vous pouvez circuler à votre guise dans les tribunes et sur la piste. difficile de croire pourtant qu'il s'y déroule l'un des plus important événement hippique au monde. superbe vue sur la partie nord-ouest de Londres d'où se détache l'arche du stade de Wembley. un secteur bien vert avec de superbes dénivelés pour les cyclistes.
