Built in 1185 by the Knights Templar, a 12th-century order of soldier-monks, on the model of Jerusalem's Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Temple Church was renovated in 1682 by Christopher Wren and damaged by bombing during the Second World War. You may see some budding adventurers looking for a papal plot, as Temple Church was made famous in Dan Brown's bestseller The Da Vinci Code. Access is by daylight only, via Fleet St or Tudor St, as the grounds are surrounded by railings. Debates and tours are organized on this theme.
