Camden Market is the perfect summary of London: vintage clothes, food from all over the world, underground vibes, punks...

Camden Market is surely London's most famous market. It's also the largest, comprising several markets in one. It's a must-see on any visit to the British capital. It opened in 1974, initially on a temporary basis, with just 15 stalls, open only on Sundays. It was located in the backyard of Dingwalls, the city's legendary concert hall where Blondie, the Sex Pistols, the Rolling Stones and the Ramones have performed. Camden was the birthplace of rock and punk in London. The area is still a hotbed of counter-culture. Today, the market is home to over 1,000 traders of all kinds, every day of the week, right next to Regent's Canal. Its popularity continues to grow. Camden Market is the epitome of what you'd expect from an English market: food, drink and shopping. You'll find everything here, to suit all tastes and prices: junk accessories, crazy vintage clothes, designer clothes, CDs, vinyl, second-hand books, shoes, handicrafts, ethnic fashions... At the sight of some of the clothes in the windows, you might wonder who could possibly be wearing that? But a glance at the surrounding crowd will remind you that in London nothing, or almost nothing, shocks. This heterogeneous mix of genres, both in terms of the objects sold and the people who come to buy them, is characteristic. At Camden Lock and Camden Canal Markets, you'll find designer boutiques, while at Stables Market you'll find crafts, art and furniture. The indoor Electric Market specializes in Gothic-style velvet jackets, faux furs and extravagant jewelry. Part of the market is also dedicated to food, with great street-food options from around the world. Taste Chin Chin Labs' liquid nitrogen ice creams, melt for The Mac Factory's revisited Mac'n'Cheese. For a British touch, try burritos from Yorkshire Burrito, filled with all the elements of the traditional Sunday Roast. On the night of Sunday 9 to Monday 10 July 2017, a fire ravaged part of the market. Unfortunately, this is a recurring phenomenon, having already occurred in 2014 and 2008. Despite everything, the market always recovers and becomes even more beautiful each time. It's a great place to spend the day!

A faire absolument.
