A must-see museum in London for its contemporary art collections, exhibitions and views of the City from the 10th floor!

The Tate Modern is a must-see in London, whether you go for the permanent contemporary art collections or for the always exciting temporary exhibitions. Located on the right bank of the River Thames in the Southwark district of London, Tate Modern's collection of modern British and international art continues to grow and develop, comprising over 70,000 works. Tate Modern's permanent collections are not organized chronologically, but rather thematically and pedagogically, focusing on colors, emotions and more. The greatest names of the 20th century are represented: Picasso, Braque, Dali, Miro, Beuys, Pollock, Bacon... All the major movements are also present: minimalism, surrealism, support/surface... If you don't know where to start, free guided tours are organized daily. The collections are housed in a former Bankside power station rehabilitated by architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, and opened in 2000. You enter the museum through a huge hall, the former turbine hall. Impressive! This is the most visited museum of modern art in the world.

The main parts are run down, grubby, uncared for, depressing. Two of the ridiculously slow four lifts not even working. Main exit closed off because of building “works”, but no guidance as to alternative exit - took me 15 minutes to find. No proper signs or directions to get around the place - a constant state of being lost. Overcrowded. No staff around to ask for directions except an exceptionally rude and aggressive female security guard. The espresso cafe pointedly cheap and dismal. It served almost nothing except hot drinks in cheap paper cups and a couple of mini-cakes and packets of crisps; on a par with a petrol service station shop. My chair in a cafe was smashed into by an exhibition exit door, nearly knocking me off it. Obviously not even consideration given to basics as where to place tables and chairs. Only the bar is decent-looking and functioning, if understaffed. It used to be better once upon a time - at least it was clean and there were staff. Compared with the beautiful Zurich art gallery or Modern Art of New York, it’s a miserable experience. This includes some of the banal art on display and the woke curating / political lecturing. It was a disappointment.

Tate Modern je moje srdcovka, tady se mi líbí vždycky. Útočiště v deštivém počasí, kde je vždycky co vidět.
