Bazaars are an integral part of everyday life in Central Asia. They are both a place to shop and a center of sociability, with their restaurants and teahouses, often in the open air, contributing to the local liveliness. Astana couldn't fail to have its own! The central bazaar, located as its name suggests on the outskirts of the city, is in this case very large, but doesn't offer the authenticity of the bazaars you'll find in the rest of the country: it's more a cross between a bazaar and a shopping mall.
