Astana can be reached by train from many cities in the country. We just need to take into account distances and the relative slowness of trains. Take 20 hours to travel between Astana and Almaty (or 13 hours by borrowing the new Rapide train), 11 hours to get Shymkent to the north of the country, 16 hours for Kostanay. An international train also allows to visit Moscow.

Rates depend on the selected class. The second class, dubbed kupe, allows to share the time of the journey with many companions of the road: the berths are not divided into compartments, and the bunk beds are aligned simultaneously and perpendicular to the wagon over its entire length. Rates are very affordable in this class.
