The old Soviet museum, with its minerals and stuffed animals, has been given a facelift and now presents the history of southern Kazakhstan in an orderly fashion. Archaeology, history, ethnology and handicrafts are all on display, along with a wealth of artifacts. A final section, devoted to nature, houses a large collection of insects and, here again, minerals! All of this is enhanced by reconstructions, including one of the Karaungir cave, from the Paleolithic era.
