ARBO PALACE

Located just outside the city, this palace was built between 1951 and 1957 by a hero of the Second World War fascinated by the architecture of St. Petersburg. Arbo had saved his entire life to build a palace in the spirit of those he had seen in Russia. The result is, of course, a little kitsch but nevertheless worthy of interest, particularly for the very impressive interior theatre. The stage curtain is made according to the traditional technique of suzanné, and it is a single woman who worked for four years to create it.
The palace recently entered the history of Tajikistan: negotiations for the end of the civil war were held in this building. In 1997, it was also here that the Peace treaty was signed. And three years later, the theatre served as a framework for the ceremony officially marking the beginning of the second mandate of the Tajik President.
