FORTRESSES OF KIZ KALA AND DJIGIT KALA
They date from the Life and the th century of our era, and were built by the Iranian dynasty of Des. Koyunbaba Kala is the largest. Still standing walls are only 15 m high, but they were initially much higher. We can, however, always admire the columns that support them and see their strange number: 18 and a half in the direction of width, 22 and a half on the length for the larger of the two. The two fortresses were destroyed during the Arab attacks, but some sections of the wall resisted catapults. Yezdigir, the last sassanide king, did not resist it: history tells that he would die in the fortress of Koyunbaba Kala. Koyunbaba means "daughter": the fortress of Koyunbaba Kala was reserved for women, while that of Djigit Kala was inhabited by men. Legend tells us that the men came to throw apples over the walls of the women's fortress, and that the women who captured them meant their desire to marry the launcher.
