Discover these underground baths which were used for rituals and purification ablutions by the Jewish community
Discovered by chance in 1964, these underground baths, supplied with water from the river, were used for purification rituals and ablutions by the Jewish community, of about 200 people, who lived in Besalú between the 9th and 15th centuries. It is a Romanesque style room, built in carved stone. Above it are the ruins of the old synagogue. The alleys of the old Jewish quarter surround the synagogue. It is the only space dedicated to Jewish baths found in Catalonia along with the one in Girona. A unique place.
