The city of L'Escala pays tribute to what has made its wealth: the fishing of anchovies and their salting.
This is one of the great festivities of l'Escala, which usually takes place on the Saturday after September 11th (National Day of Catalonia). It was created in 1997 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of theAlfolí de la Sal (salt granary) and to celebrate what has made the village so rich. The date coincides with the end of the sardine fishing season. On this occasion, demonstrations of fishing and salting practices, the arrival of the boat loaded with salt and illuminated boats will be held at night in La Platja. The fiesta begins with an Indika choir and ends with a popular ball.
