The Jewish community of Girona had a considerable influence on the economic and social life of medieval Girona
The Jewish community of Girona, established as early as the 12th century, gained great renown thanks to its cabalistic school developed by Bonastruc ça Porta, and exerted considerable influence on the economic and social life of medieval Girona. The Bonastruc ça Porta center bears witness to the Jewish presence in the city. The old medieval Jewish quarter is located around the Carrer de la Força; its axis was the Roman Via Augusta, which crossed the city from north to south. Around it were three synagogues, the hospital and the orphanage.
