FISHING MUSEUM - FISH AUCTION - FISH AREA
Fishing museum installed in a former port shed, offering a guided tour of the fish market in the afternoon.
Founded in 1920, this fishing museum is now housed in a former harbour shed. Through five themes: what is fished, where is fished, the world and the rituals of fishing, how is fished and the future of this activity, its permanent exhibition allows you to better know this local resource: its history, its boats, its nets, snorkel or longline. This is also the place to come in the afternoon, from Monday to Friday, if you would like to enjoy a guided tour of the fish auction. You will be present at the arrival of the boats, the unloading of the fish and seafood and their sale. In a reserved area high up in the stands, you can watch the very quick pricing operation, including the prices of the local star, the big red shrimp of Palamós. As this auction is reserved for professionals, it will be just for the pleasure of the eyes. However, you will be able to buy these products on the ground floor, in a large sales area open to the public. The complex is completed by the espai del peix, a fish area, located on the first floor of the Sea Museum. This is a gastronomic area entirely dedicated to the preparation of fish. It is an interpretation centre, a training workshop and a tasting area. Courses and workshops are in Catalan and Spanish. In the cooking shows, people watch and taste and in the workshops, they get stuck in.
