LE MASSIF DES GAVARRES

The Gavarres massif was classified as an area of natural interest in December 1992, then integrated into the Natura 2000 network
It has a rounded shape, defined as elephantine by the writer Josep Pla, and extends over approximately 350 hectares, spread over some 20 municipalities. Classified as an area of natural interest in December 1992 and later included in the natura 2000 network, it is a real physical barrier between the Baix Empordà and La Selva, with its highest peak at Puig de la Gavarra (532 m). Above all, it is an area of forest with the most important maritime pine forest in Catalonia. On the fauna side, we will mainly see birds of prey. And it is the ideal place for hiking, walking or cycling.
