Sant Marçal Pass is a starting point for several hikes with sensational views
Between the Matagalls and Les Agudes massifs, at an altitude of 1,100 m, the Col de Sant Marçal is the starting point for several hikes to the highest massifs of the Montseny, including Matagalls and Les Agudes. The ascent of Matagalls (1,697 m) is worth the detour, especially for the sensational view of the green mountains. The well-marked trail of medium difficulty partly follows the GR 5.2 (count a little less than 10 km A/R, 3h30/4h). The first stage of the "Route de la Tourdera" also starts at 300 metres above sea level. It is here, at Font Bona, that the river Tourdera takes its source before unbinding its curves to the Mediterranean. The "Plateau of the Three Bishops" (Taula dels Tres Bisbes in Catalan) is just a stone's throw away. According to legend, this is the place where the dioceses of Girona, Vic and Barcelona used to meet to make peace and clarify the limits of their respective territories in the event of discord. A meeting that was sealed with a sip of ratafia, a local liqueur produced from the maceration of herbs and fruit! Ratafia, in Latin, means "closed pact" (rat-fiat).
