CHURCH OF SANTA MARIA
Large church located at the highest point of the city on the ruins of an old Romanesque church in Montblanc
Known as the Cathedral of the Mountain, this large church was built in the 14th century at the highest point of the town on the ruins of an old Romanesque church to accommodate the growing population of Montblanc. The construction was carried out over a long period of time and in an irregular manner, so that when the plague struck the town at the end of the 14th century, it was still not finished. We can observe its large baroque façade, which replaced the old one (gothic), destroyed in the 17th century. The interior of the church is also worth a visit.
