SANT MIQUEL CHURCH
Perfect example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic with side chapels in Montblanc
A perfect example of the transition from Romanesque to Gothic, the church of Sant Miquel is a 13th-century building with a Romanesque façade and Gothic interior. It was the seat of the Catalan government from 1307 to 1370, looted during the 19th century and then turned into a store during the Spanish Civil War. We will appreciate its side chapels lined up like so many periods of the evolution of the Gothic, from the most austere forms to the most flowery ornaments, but also the polychrome frescos of the ceiling.
