THE REMARKS
Imposing wall of Montblanc, perhaps the best preserved fortified enclosure in Catalonia
The imposing wall of Montblanc, perhaps the best preserved fortified enclosure in Catalonia, owes its construction to the fortification project of the Catalan cities ordered by King Pere III in the 11th century. Encircling a perimeter of 1,500m2 and originally composed of thirty stone defense towers, the wall was divided into four main sections accessible through the four unique entrance gates to the city, corresponding to the cardinal points: the portals of Sant Antoni and Sant Francesc, and the tower-gates of Sant Jordi and Bové.

Il faut monter au sommet de la colline – un parc y est aménagé où on peut aussi voir les vestiges des fondations du château. De là, la vue sur les murailles vaut le coup d’œil, photo à l’appui!
