CATEDRAL DE TARRAGONA
Cathedral, a real museum of sacred art, located at the top of the old town of Tarragona.
At the top of the old city stands the cathedral, a true museum of sacred art. It was begun at the end of the 12th century (1171) and completed in the 14th century. The alabaster altarpiece by the Catalan sculptor Pere Joan tells the story of the life of St. Thecla, patron saint of the city, and the marble tomb is that of Don Joan d'Aragó. The Gothic chapel of Santa María, known as the "Chapel of the Tailors", is the most elaborate in the cathedral. In the sacristy, a 15th-century panelled ceiling reveals an Arabic influence. Diocesan museum with Romanesque and Gothic paintings and sculptures.
