ROMAN AMPHITHEATRE
Oval-shaped amphitheater built in the second century on the seafront, which is now one of the emblems of Tarragona
Built in the 2nd century on the seafront, this oval-shaped amphitheatre measured 109.5 m by 86.5 m when complete and could accommodate up to 14,000 spectators: gladiatorial combat and killings were the order of the day. In the 6th century a Visigothic basilica was built on the same site, which was later replaced by the church of Santa Maria del Miracle. Most of the original amphitheatre has been preserved and is now one of Tarragona's landmarks. During the festival Tarraco Viva, fights in the lion's den are simulated.

Plutôt bien conservé, la mer en toile de fond lui rend le tableau magnifique.
Visite se faisant facilement avec des enfants.
Incontournable à Tarragone
