SHELTER NUMBER 4
One of the most important anti-aircraft refuges in Tortosa, consisting of a main hall and galleries
In 2015, the city opened for visits one of the most important anti-aircraft refuges in Tortosa. It consists of a main room and galleries of one meter wide and two meters high, dug up to 120 meters underground, and it could accommodate up to 400 people, which is considerable. Its visit allows us to understand the role that Tortosa played in the Civil War, a strategic location in the heart of one of the most violent conflicts of the war: the Battle of the Ebro. It is the first stop on the Hemingway route.
