BAR PILAR
A Valencian classic opened in 1917, the establishment retains its original decoration, with its wooden shelves and ceramic-covered walls. At the counter or around a small table, people come here to taste the famous clóchinas, small mussels typical of the region, to be tasted with a good glass of white wine. When you have finished your plate of mussels, you throw the shells into the buckets on the floor: that's tradition. But since clóchinas are seasonal (spring-summer), the rest of the year you will have to rely on the house's good tapas, especially patatas bravas and ensaladilla russa, two counter classics. For lovers, know that Bar Pilar is also famous for its homemade vermouth. This remains a must, if only for the frame, which is very photographed; on the other hand, the service is far from irreproachable. The tourist pressure maybe....
