CAFÉ MADRID
This is the openness that everyone is talking about. Near the Ceramics Museum, it is the café of the brand new Marques House Hotel, opened at the end of October 2018. But if the hotel is new, this is not the case of Café Madrid, one of the city's emblematic cafés, whose history tells us that it was here that the agua of Valencia, vodka, gin, champagne and orange were invented... A place used to accommodate horse-drawn carriages in the 19th century, it then became a large brewery, Oro del Rin and then Café Berlin until a 1940 decree banning the use of foreign names allowed it to become Café Madrid. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was the place where everything in the city was found: poets, artists, chess players and politicians, to meet and debate. It remained fashionable until the 1990s and was then abandoned. The reopening of this mythical café after a very scrupulous renovation will allow us to appreciate its current setting, which is both classic and bohemian. And of course to enjoy some of the many cocktails on his menu prepared by Iván Talens, a very award-winning chef in his field, including of course the agua de Valencia.
