MISTERI D'EIX

Throughout the month of August, the City of Elche (Valencian Community) organises numerous festivals, including fireworks in the four corners of the city which last almost an hour and announce the feast of 15 August in honour of Notre-Dame de l'Assomption. Elche has the particularity of representing the Mystery of the Virgin since the th century. It is a representation that tells the last moments of the Virgin, the assumption of its body and soul to heaven and its crowning glory. But it was in mid-August that the Misteri d'Eix was sung, a lyrical and religious drama sung in Valencian and classified as the intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO.
