The former convent convent of El Carmen, built in the th century, is a monumental set that reflects various periods by its architectural complexity. It consists of a medieval chapel, a Gothic cloister and a Renaissance cloister, a façade and a baroque steeple. In the th century, the Museum of Carmen houses the main works of religious art of the city and the collection of the Academy of Fine Arts of Sant Carles. However, the building is affected by the civil war and the displaced collection in the building of the seminary of San Pio V to form the Art Gallery of Valencia. Until the 1980 s, the old convent is left behind, before being restored to host an annex to the modern art museum IVAM. Today, part of the convent forms the museum of the 1930 th century (museo del Siglo XIX), which covers the period from the beginning of the s until the s, true artistic bridge between the collection of the Museum of Fine Arts and the contemporary art collection of the IVAM. On the other hand, the oldest part of the convent hosts temporary exhibitions.
