The construction of the old residence of the Borja family dates back to the th century. This important family of Xàtiva will play a decisive role in the politics of the th century Italy, so that two family members will become successivement popes. This Gothic palace will then turn into a silk factory in the th century, then residence of the Earl of Benicarló at the end of the same century, and seat of the Republican government during the civil war. Today, it is the seat of the Cortes Valencianas, the parliament of autonomous government.
