CONVENT CARMEN CULTURAL CENTRE
Church hosting a cultural center, and orchard with a gastronomic market in the former convent of San Jose in Valencia.
Opened since 28 September 2018, this new "Convent Carmen" centre has an ambitious objective: to be both a cultural centre and a gastronomic market and, in general, a portal for "everything that is happening in Valencia". The centre occupies what was once the former San José convent, dating from 1609 and abandoned for about ten years. While respecting the site, Francesc Rifé was commissioned to design a new modern and renovated space, including the Renaissance church, the baroque building and the garden that served as an orchard. On the cultural side, the church houses a cultural centre that hosts book presentations, film screenings, concerts, debates, performing arts and activities for children. During the second half of October 2018, it was the headquarters of the fifth edition of the Valencian festival "Intramurs". And in terms of gastronomy, you can also enjoy a space located in the former orchard of the convent. With five points on the theme of world cuisine, Japanese, Valencian, etc. To be enjoyed on deckchairs spread out in the garden. Saturday will be the day of the "à la carte dishes" which are intended to be a union between DJs and gastronomy... In short, a very extensive programme of activities, the latest news of which can be consulted on the Centre's website. And which should provide another opportunity to rally the charming Carmen district. Pending the installation of a four-star hotel in the former convent, planned for 2020.
