MOROS Y CRISTIANOS DE ALCOY

Declared Holiday of international tourist interest in 1980, the popular feast of the Moros y Cristianos is celebrated every year in Alcoy, in the province of Alicante. On this occasion, the city turns into medieval stage to represent the clash between Moorish and Christian. The festivities are celebrated in honour of the patron saint of the city Sant Jordi, who miraculously appeared on his horse to save the inhabitants of Alcoy from the attack of the Moors. On the streets of the city, thousands of white flags with the cross of Sant Jordi and so many green flags with the growing moon of Islam float throughout the city. A stunning spectacle of drums and trumpets with beautiful costumes.
