INFORMATIONS
The island of Tabarca, located 11 nautical miles from the city of Alicante, is a real jewel in the Mediterranean. The only inhabited island in the Valencian Community, it boasts some of the finest beaches in the region. With its crystal-clear waters and exceptional biodiversity, it is classified as a Marine Nature Reserve. Tabarca's history dates back to the 18th century, when King Charles III ordered the construction of a village to accommodate Genoese families rescued from the Tunisian port of Tabarka. Today, the island's walled urban center is home to the 18th-century church of San Pedro and San Pablo. To visit Tabarca, you can take a shuttle from the port of Alicante, Santa Pola or Bénidorm. Once on the island, visitors can enjoy its coves and beaches, stroll through the picturesque town center and sample the local specialty, "caldero" (fresh fish with potatoes and rice in aïoli). It's also possible to spend the night on the island, as several hotels have opened in recent years. For history buffs, the island's museum is also not to be missed. The island of Tabarca is a true paradise to discover during your stay in Alicante.
