The Sha Tin racecourse is one of the great local attractions. With an impressive capacity of 85,000 spectators, it is one of the most beautiful and modern racecourses in the world. The atmosphere, more solemn than that of Happy Valley, appeals to an audience made up mainly of Hong Kongers and mainland Chinese. Thoroughbreds from all over the world enjoy state-of-the-art stables with heated pools to relax their muscles after exercise. It was here that the equestrian events of the 2008 Olympic Games were held.
