TIN HAU TEMPLE
This temple, located at the end of Main Street, is dedicated to the goddess of the sea
At the end of Main Street, this tiny temple is dedicated, as its name suggests, to the goddess of the sea, one of Hong Kong's most venerated deities. Two granite lions (customarily petted by locals) guard the temple entrance; they are Western in style, as at the time of their installation some sixty years ago, no Chinese lion sculptors were available. Inside, behind a red screen (to keep out evil spirits), a shrine contains representations of Tin Hau in a veil.
