HONG KONG MUSEUM OF ART
Museum with collections including oils, drawings, sketches and lithographs
The Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMOA), located directly on the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, is a must for anyone interested in discovering Hong Kong and Chinese art. The new building is superb: imposing on the outside with its contemporary architecture, it's airy and bright on the inside, making for a very pleasant visit. The view of Victoria Bay, just across the street, is an added bonus!
With its 19,500 works, the HKMOA offers a perfect balance between traditional Chinese art (paintings, calligraphy, ceramics, bronzes), including the famous Xubaizhai collection of calligraphy and paintings, and contemporary local and international works. One gallery is entirely dedicated to Hong Kong art, perfect for immersing yourself in local culture.
Guided tours in English are available daily without reservation, ideal for discovering exhibitions with more context. The museum does an excellent job of blending the traditional with the modern, and offers temporary exhibitions that are often well worth a visit thanks to partnerships with the world's leading institutions.
Outside, the Sculpture Court is a space where contemporary sculptures and installations are regularly exhibited, and we like the idea of art coming out of the museum walls to meet passers-by.
In short, the HKMOA is the perfect place to immerse yourself in Hong Kong's artistic history! An enriching visit, with one of the city's finest views to boot.
