JAO TSUNG I ACADEMY
An original idea of visit, far from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong, the Jao Tsung I Academy located in the middle of a wooded park, is a set of buildings that includes museums, exhibitions and workshops whose visit is free. The Academy is housed in the former customs offices dating back to the 19th century. On Sundays, a small market is held on the Academy grounds. The programme of the exhibitions can be consulted on the website. This is a project dedicated to Professor Jao, a world-renowned sinologist, who created this centre for the promotion of Chinese culture. Professor Jao has devoted 70 years of his life to university research and artistic creation. He is a scholar who is at the same time a poet, a calligrapher and a painter. His brilliant work and contributions to the preservation of Chinese culture have led him to receive numerous academic honours, including the Stanislas Julien Prize from the Collège de France. He received the honorary title of Doctor of Arts from the Ecole pratique des hautes études and was decorated as an officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. For those who appreciate the place and its tranquility, there is a hotel in the Academy Park, the Heritage Lodge, which offers very comfortable rooms.
