CARACAS CATHEDRAL
Less than 33 years ago, its m bell tower still dominated the city. Out of land in 1665, it has been decorated since 1888 with an English clock but - unique in Caracas - its facade has not been changed since the early th century. Inside, the altarpiece de Saint Nicolás de Bari (1771) exemplifies the transition between the rococo and neo-classical. The major altarpiece, designed in 1756 by J.-F. De León Quintana, can only draw the eye with its 150 kg of foil. We also note the presence of masterpieces such as The Presentation of the child to the temple of Murillo, and The Resurrection of Rubens, offered to the church by a French admiral who, caught in a terrible storm, promised to donate it if he arrived at La Guairá.
In the chapel of Trinidad, rest the wife and parents of Libertador. The ashes of the latter were also preserved before their transfer to the Pantheon.
