CASA NATAL DEL LIBERTADOR SIMÓN BOLÍVAR
Located on the last cobbled street in Caracas, this house was built in 1773 by Juan Vicente Bolívar on an area belonging to his family for generations. His marriage with María Concepción Palacios y Blancos will be two daughters and two boys. The second of them, born on July 24, 1783, will be named Simón. The future Libertador, orphaned at age 9, will be educated by the free thinker and unorthodox Simón Rodríguez. At 16, Bolívar left Caracas to improve his education in Spain. He stayed there the last time, in 1827, before his departure for Colombia.
This colonial residence remains unavoidable even if, with earthquakes and restorations, it lost its stamp. The furniture was then, but originally they were not all part of the house. Major paintings by Tito Salas outline America's History and the Heroic Life of Libertador, from his wedding in Madrid in 1802 to the earthquake of 1812. Note the Exposition cordon, the equivalent of the Legion of honour. Hey, yes! Bolívar has long admired Napoleon, assistant even to his sacre in Notre-Dame. Left of the birthplace of Bolívar is the museum of… Bolívar.
