NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
In 1874, President Guzmán Blanco ruled the illegality of convents, judged "incompatible with a Liberal and advanced Republic." The convent of the sisters of La Concepción, at the entrance of which the grandfather of Bolívar had made himself buried, for the visitors to walk, according to his wishes, «on the remains of the sinner», was thus destroyed in the same year.
On its location, the legislative and federal palaces are built. Five architects were used to bring the Legislative palace to Earth in 114 days! It currently houses the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. The Federal Palace, built four years later, now hosts the offices of some ministers.
Its elliptical lounge, reserved for first order ceremonies, houses the register of proceedings of the Congress of 1811, the original of the Act of Independence and another national treasure: The marble chest that contains the gold key from the urn where the Cendres ashes rest. By raising your eyes, you can enjoy the famous battle of Carabobo, painted by Martín Tovar y Tovar in Paris. Guzmán loved the French capital and made a copy of the majestic fountain of Concorde between the two buildings of the Capitol.
